Indicators and units
| Indicator | Unit | Refers to |
|---|---|---|
| Life expectancy at each age | years | The calendar year |
| Survivors at each age | survivors of 100,000 births | The calendar year |
How we process it
- The complete life tables of the medium variant read for both sexes, men and women, ages 0 to 100.
- Life expectancy e(x) and survivors l(x) of 100,000 births kept for every age and year. Checked against life expectancy in the WPP indicators and against e(x) computed again from l(x).
Known limitations
- A period life table describes the mortality of one year. It is not a forecast of how long any person will live, because mortality changes over a lifetime.
- Ages 100 and over form one open group.
