How we process it
- File 21 of the 2025 revision read: every city with its code, name, capital flag, population-weighted centre and yearly population.
- Populations converted from thousands to people. Years when a place was under 50,000 people stay empty.
- Matched to the site’s countries by the UN location code. Years from 2026 on are projections.
Known limitations
- A city here is a dense area of at least 1,500 people per km² and 50,000 people, drawn on a population grid. It can differ from a city’s administrative borders and from national statistics.
- Some large cities are joined into one urban area where they have grown together.
