Family generations

You and your family, side by side: the world each of you knew at the same age, and where everyone stands in the same year.

At the age of 30: someone born in 1960 reached it in 1990, when the world had 5.33 billion people. Someone born in 1990 reached it in 2020, with 7.89 billion.

An example with two birth years. Add your own family to compare.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Add up to six people with a nickname, a birth year and, if you like, a country.
  2. 2Compare everyone at the same age: the year each of you reached it and the world then.
  3. 3Or pick one year and see everyone’s age in it.

How it works

At the same age: someone born in year B is that age during year B plus the age. The world population and median age of that year come from the UN World Population Prospects 2024, projections from 2024 on.

"Born after them" is the share of people alive on 1 January of the chosen year, in that person’s country or the world, who were born in a later year.

Profiles stay in this browser. They are kept after you leave only if you turn on remembering in Settings, and "Delete my data" removes them. They never go into a link, an image or analytics: this page is never indexed and counts only how many profiles there are.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my family’s names stored?

Only in your browser, and only for this visit unless you turn on remembering in Settings. Nothing is sent to Anthrotempo or anyone else.

Can I compare people born before 1950?

Yes. The world figures start in 1950, so for an age reached before then the table shows a dash.
