Editorial policy
Anthrotempo turns official population data into answers about your own life and the world around it. These are the rules every page follows.
Every number comes from the data
Every figure on the site is calculated from a published dataset, the same files you can see on the data sources page, or comes from a primary source named on the page. Numbers are never typed into a text by hand. Each page names its source, its reference date and, where it matters, how a value was calculated.
Estimates and projections are marked
The United Nations estimates the population up to 2023 and projects it from 2024 on. Projected values are always labelled as projections, drawn dashed or hatched in charts, and never presented as facts about the future. A figure for a past year that is still a projection in the data is labelled the same way.
Populations, not people
The site describes groups of people. It never draws conclusions about one person from the average of a country or an age group, and it never estimates how long you will live.
Generations
Generation names follow one cited source, the Pew Research Center, and every name is shown with its birth years. The site describes how many people were born in those years, never what a generation is like.
Names, borders and maps
Country names follow the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR), the names used by browsers and operating systems. The name the United Nations uses in its data is shown on each country page. The maps show de facto boundaries from Natural Earth and take no position on disputed territories.
How the pages are written
The pages are written and checked by the editor. The translations into the other languages are made with the help of AI translation tools and then reviewed. Every number is checked against the data before a page is published, and every page exists in six languages.
Ads and independence
Anthrotempo is free and funded by ads from Google AdSense. Ads are shown apart from the content and never change what a page says. There is no sponsored content.
