Longevity
Life expectancy at birth in the world was 73.2 years in 2023, by the UN estimate, against 46.4 in 1950.
For women it was 75.9 years, for men 70.5.
Of every 1,000 babies born alive in 2023, 27.3 died before their first birthday. In 1950 it was 138.1.
Life expectancy at birth is a period measure. It sums up the death rates of one year and is not a forecast of how long the babies born that year will live.
